For most people, April 15th was Tax Day. How many of us typically prepare and e-file our own tax returns?

Answer: ~44%

44% of people who filed electronically prepared their own returns in 2024. So far in 2025, 46% percent of people who filed electronically prepared their own returns.

Behind the numbers (IRS): 

Most people e-filed their tax returns in 2024 - approximately 93% of all returns received were filed electronically! Of those returns, 44% were self-prepared and 56% were prepared by a professional.
