Are You in the American Middle Class?
52% of U.S. adults lived in middle-income households in 2022 - are you one of them?
Pew Research Center’s income calculator lets you see which income group you fall into and compares you with:
- Other adults in your metro area
- U.S. adults overall
- U.S. adults similar to you in education, race or ethnicity, and marital status
Questions:
- The real median household income was $74,580 in 2022 (United States Census Bureau). Which income tier would a single person with this income be in if they lived in the closest metro area to you?
- How would this change if there were two people in the household with the same income?
- Play around with the demographic filters for Education, Age, Race/Ethnicity, and Marital Status. How does the income tier change as you modify these filters?
